Board Marking

Overview of Board Marking

Board marking is a crucial process in testing, where units under test (UUT) are permanently marked to indicate that they have successfully passed inspection. This process is employed in both In-Circuit Testing (ICT) and functional testing fixtures. Board marker probes can be installed either electrically or pneumatically, providing flexibility in various testing environments.

Types of Board Marker Probes:

  • Electrical Board Marker Probes: These probes are powered by a 12V DC supply and are typically activated for about 1 second to allow the rotary motion necessary to mark the UUT. During the testing procedure, the spring-loaded engraver is pressed against the UUT, ensuring precise marking.
  • Pneumatic Board Marker Probes: Pneumatic probes operate using compressed air. Unlike their electrical counterparts, they do not require the engraver to be pressed against the UUT during the test. Instead, the compressed air raises the engraver and presses it onto the UUT, enabling the rotary motion to mark the UUT effectively.

Advantages of Board Marker Probes

Board marker probes are robust, compact, and capable of precise positioning, ensuring high resistance to abrasion. This makes them ideal for rigorous testing environments. Additionally, there are suction and collection systems available that can extract shavings created during the marking process, preventing impurities from accumulating inside the test fixture.

Applications in ICT and Functional Fixtures

Board marker probes are versatile and can be used across various testing applications. Whether in ICT or functional testing, these probes ensure that each unit is clearly marked, signifying successful testing. This is particularly valuable in high-volume production environments where consistent quality control is essential

In Summary

Board marking is an essential part of the testing process, providing a reliable method for marking UUTs that have passed inspection. Forwessun offers both electrical and pneumatic board marker probes, each tailored to specific testing needs, ensuring precise and durable marking in demanding testing environments.
