Ensuring Accurate Probe Alignment
At Forwessun, maintaining precise probe alignment is crucial for achieving reliable test results. We employ a variety of procedures to verify and facilitate the alignment of probes within our test fixtures.
Visual Inspection
One of the primary methods used to confirm probe alignment is visual inspection. By actuating the test fixture against a sample UUT, our engineers can visually inspect the contact points of the spring-loaded test probes to ensure they are making accurate connections with the intended targets. This process allows for immediate adjustments and ensures that the fixture is properly calibrated.
Probe Strike Test
A probe accuracy strike test is a basic method used to check how precisely test probes make contact with a unit under test (UUT). This process involves using sample points across a printed circuit board (PCB) to evaluate the probes’ strike points and determine their alignment accuracy. However, this approach has limitations—it provides minimal coverage and can only identify widespread alignment issues rather than pinpointing specific inaccuracies.
Recognising these shortcomings, Forwessun developed a smart alignment plate. This innovative tool goes beyond visual checks by electrically verifying the conductivity of probes, even with smaller target areas. The smart alignment plate ensures a higher level of precision and reliability in testing, helping to overcome the challenges of traditional strike tests.
Smart Alignment PCB
Forwessun also utilises Smart Alignment PCBs, which are specially designed with reduced test pad sizes to facilitate automated probe alignment checks. This is particularly valuable in high-pressure production environments where speed and accuracy are essential. By using Smart Alignment PCBs, operators can quickly troubleshoot any alignment issues and address them before they impact the production line. Learn more about our smart alignment boards, how it works and why its an important enhancement in the testing process.
Summary
Forwessun’s comprehensive probe alignment confirmation processes, including visual inspections and the use of Smart Alignment PCBs, ensure that our test fixtures are always performing at their best, providing accurate and reliable results in any production environment.
